Boscastle

The harbour is one of Boscastle’s greatest charms, with its high stone walls carved from the cliff and views that invite you to pause and watch the meeting of river and sea. Here, the River Valency winds gently through the village before spilling into the harbour, adding to the sense of calm and timelessness – plus a sheltered spot to enjoy a stroll. Sit awhile and imagine schooners of old drifting by — or, if conditions are right, listen for the dramatic boom of the blowhole, known as The Devil’s Bellows.

Food and drink are a real highlight in this vibrant yet traditional village. You’ll find a mix of bakeries, independent shops, and excellent eateries throughout. The Boscastle Farm Shop, just up the hill, is a local favourite—especially known for its outstanding Cornish pasties.

For fresh seafood, The Rocket Store is a must, while The Cobwebb offers the cosy charm of a traditional Cornish inn. The Napoleon Inn, one of the oldest pubs in the area, is another great stop, and The Wellington Hotel is not only a wonderful place to dine but is also said to be one of Britain’s most haunted spots.

Boscastle’s sense of mystery continues at the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic, a unique attraction housed in a whitewashed cottage. Filled with fascinating artefacts and rich social history, it’s the only museum of its kind and offers an intriguing glimpse into folklore and belief systems.

Beyond the village, there’s plenty to explore. Nearby Tintagel, steeped in Arthurian legend, now features a footbridge linking the mainland to the headland. Crackington Haven is rich in birdlife, while St Nectan’s Glen enchants visitors with its 60-foot waterfall and tales of pixies. Trebarwith Strand, with its rugged coastline revealed at low tide, is perfect for reconnecting with nature.

With perfect sunsets, and easy access to the South West Coast Path, the picturesque village of Boscastle offers so much to visitors.
