Camelford

Camelford is a small north Cornwall town set close to Bodmin Moor, the River Camel and the rugged coastline around Tintagel and Boscastle. It is a practical, characterful base for exploring inland Cornwall, with moorland walks, Arthurian legends and dramatic coastal scenery all within easy reach.

One of the loveliest simple pleasures is the riverside walk through Camelford, following the River Camel as it winds past trees, green spaces and quiet corners of town. It is gentle, accessible and ideal for a slower stroll, dog walk or peaceful break from driving. If you’re looking for more of a challenging stomp, you are well placed to hike the craggy hill, Rough Tor.

Food options are easy and local. Peckers is a popular choice for classic fish and chips, while Cornish Maids is great for a proper pasty or simple takeaway lunch before heading out exploring. For a countryside pub meal, The Rising Sun in nearby Altarnun is well worth mentioning, offering a traditional village setting on the edge of Bodmin Moor.

Camelford is also well placed for day trips. Head to Tintagel for castle ruins and sea views, Boscastle for harbour walks, or up onto Bodmin Moor for wide open landscapes, ancient stones and big skies.
