Why Carbis Bay

Carbis Bay is a refined seaside spot just outside St Ives, known for its calm water, soft golden sand and elegant coastal feel. The beach is more sheltered than many north coast stretches, making it popular for swimming, paddleboarding and relaxed family beach days when conditions are calm.

The bay itself is the main attraction. With clear water, gentle waves and views across towards Godrevy Lighthouse, it has an almost Mediterranean feel on sunny days. It is also well placed for exploring St Ives without staying right in the busiest part of town.

Food is a real highlight in Carbis Bay, with options ranging from relaxed pub dining to more polished beachside restaurants. The Gannet Inn is a great choice for a cosy meal, serving hearty Cornish food in a stylish but welcoming setting.

Down by the sand, The Beach Club is ideal for casual dining with sea views, while Walter’s on the Beach offers a more elegant option for cocktails, seafood and special-occasion meals. The Deli at Carbis Bay is useful for coffee, pastries, breakfast and lighter lunches, especially before or after a beach walk.

Walking is another highlight. Follow the South West Coast Path towards St Ives for one of the area’s prettiest short walks, with beaches, sea views and plenty of places to stop along the way. In the other direction, you can head towards Lelant and Hayle for wider views across the bay. For some rest and relaxation after stomping the coast path, C Bay Spa offers spa days with sea views that or not to be missed.

Carbis Bay is best enjoyed slowly: swim, walk to St Ives, linger over lunch, then return for a peaceful evening beside the sea.
