Why Crantock

Crantock, three miles south of Newquay, is one of Cornwall’s most charming coastal villages, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, laid-back atmosphere, and great local spots to eat and unwind. At its heart is Crantock Beach, a wide stretch of golden sand backed by dunes and framed by the Gannel Estuary. Owned and cared for by the National Trust, it’s ideal for everything from relaxed sunbathing to paddleboarding, with the ever-changing tides creating a landscape that feels different every time you visit.

For food and a lively atmosphere, Halwyn is a standout. This relatively new addition has quickly become a favourite for both locals and visitors, combining great flavours with a fun, welcoming vibe across its driving range, mini golf and highly-acclaimed restaurant. Whether you’re stopping by for a relaxed bite or settling in for an evening, it’s a place that captures the spirit of modern Cornwall perfectly.

Traditional pub lovers are well catered for too. The Old Albion Inn offers classic charm with hearty meals and a cosy setting, perfect after a day on the beach. Meanwhile, the Bowgie Inn, perched dramatically on the clifftop nearby, pairs its menu with panoramic ocean views – an unbeatable spot for a sunset drink.

Beyond the village, the walk out to West Pentire is a must. This scenic route takes you along the South West Coast Path, with sweeping views across Crantock Beach and beyond. In early summer, the headland bursts into colour with its famous poppy fields, creating one of Cornwall’s most photographed landscapes. It’s an easy, rewarding walk that showcases the area at its very best.

Crantock manages to feel both peaceful and full of life – a place where stunning scenery, great food, and memorable walks all come together effortlessly.
