Falmouth

Falmouth is one of Cornwall’s most vibrant coastal towns, combining harbour life, beaches, independent shops, galleries, gardens and a lively food scene. It has a more cosmopolitan feel than many smaller seaside villages, while still offering easy access to the water and classic Cornish scenery.

The harbour is the heart of the town, with ferries, sailing boats, working docks and views across the Carrick Roads. Pendennis Castle adds a strong historic note, while the National Maritime Museum Cornwall is ideal for rainy days or anyone interested in Falmouth’s seafaring past.

For beach time, head to Gyllyngvase, Swanpool or Maenporth. Gyllyngvase is the most central and popular, with a broad sandy beach and easy access from town, while Swanpool and Maenporth offer a slightly quieter feel and lovely coastal walking.

Food is a real highlight. Indidog is a relaxed harbourside restaurant overlooking the water, serving brunch, lunch, dinner and Sunday roasts with a local, seasonal focus. Verdant Seafood Bar is another standout, offering small plates, fresh local seafood and Verdant beers in a cosy setting.

For walking, follow the coast path from town towards Gyllyngvase, Swanpool and Maenporth, or take a ferry across to St Mawes for estuary views and a slower day out. Falmouth is best enjoyed as a mix of sea, food, culture and harbour atmosphere.
