Why The Lizard

The Lizard is one of Cornwall’s most dramatic coastal areas, known for wild cliffs, turquoise coves, rare plants and big sea views. It feels more remote than many of Cornwall’s busier resorts, making it ideal for walkers, nature lovers and anyone seeking a rugged, atmospheric escape.

Lizard Point is the main landmark, with views across the sea and excellent chances of spotting seals, seabirds and passing boats. Nearby Kynance Cove is one of Cornwall’s most famous beaches, loved for its white sand, clear water, rock stacks and striking serpentine cliffs. It is tide-dependent, so check timings before visiting.

Walking is one of the best reasons to visit. Follow the South West Coast Path towards Kynance Cove for iconic views, or head towards Cadgwith and Coverack for quieter fishing villages and wilder scenery.

Food and drink options are relaxed and scenic. Around Lizard village and Lizard Point, you’ll find cafés, pubs and seasonal stops for cream teas, pasties, seafood and ice cream after a coastal walk.

The Lizard is best enjoyed slowly: walk the cliffs, explore a cove at low tide, watch for wildlife, then linger for sunset at Britain’s southern edge.
