Why Marazion

Marazion is a charming coastal town on Mount’s Bay, best known for its sweeping views across to St Michael’s Mount. It has a gentle, historic feel, with galleries, cafés, independent shops and a long sandy beach that makes it a lovely base for a west Cornwall stay.

The beach is, of course, a big draw. At low tide, the sands stretch out beautifully, with the Mount as a dramatic backdrop. It is popular for swimming, paddleboarding, windsurfing and family beach days, though the sea can feel exposed in breezy weather, so conditions are worth checking.

Food and drink options are relaxed and easy, with cafés, pubs and restaurants close to the beach and town centre. The Godolphin is a standout choice for food with a view, overlooking St Michael’s Mount and Mount’s Bay. The Cutty Sark, at the Marazion Hotel, is another good option for local food, fish dishes and a cosy evening meal. For something more casual, The Tudor Chippy is handy for classic fish and chips after a beach walk or visit to the Mount.

Walking is excellent here. The coastal route towards Penzance is fairly gentle and scenic, passing Long Rock and wide views across Mount’s Bay. In the other direction, explore the lanes and coastline towards Perranuthnoe for a quieter, more rural feel.

Marazion is best enjoyed around the tides: walk the causeway, explore the Mount, return for beach time, then stay for golden evening light over the bay.
