Why Mousehole
Mousehole is one of Cornwall’s prettiest fishing villages, tucked into Mount’s Bay just a few miles from Penzance. With its tiny harbour, narrow lanes, granite cottages and sea views across to St Michael’s Mount, it has a wonderfully timeless feel.
The harbour is the heart of the village. At low tide, a small sandy beach appears inside the harbour walls, making it a lovely sheltered spot for paddling, crabbing and relaxed family time. It is not a big beach destination, but it is perfect for slow wandering, photography and soaking up the atmosphere.
Food and drink are part of Mousehole’s charm. The village has cosy cafés, pubs and restaurants tucked into its narrow streets, with seafood, cream teas, coffee, cakes and relaxed harbour-side dining all easy to find. The Ship Inn is a classic choice by the harbour, while 2 Fore Street is well known for food with a coastal village feel.
For walking, follow the coast path towards Newlyn and Penzance for sea views and an easy link to nearby galleries, pubs and fish markets. In the other direction, the route towards Lamorna is wilder and more rugged, with cliffs, coves and classic west Cornwall scenery.
Mousehole is best enjoyed slowly: wander the lanes, sit by the harbour, enjoy a relaxed meal, then stay for evening light across Mount’s Bay.
