Mullion

Mullion is the largest village on the Lizard Peninsula, offering a lovely mix of traditional Cornish character, dramatic coastline and easy access to some of west Cornwall’s most beautiful coves. The village itself has a relaxed, lived-in feel, with pubs, cafés, small shops and a strong sense of local community.

Mullion Cove is the standout coastal spot. Its small Victorian harbour, now cared for by the National Trust, sits between steep cliffs and shelters a small fishing fleet from the Atlantic. It is wonderfully atmospheric, especially when the sea is lively, though the beach is small and tide-dependent rather than a classic long sandy stretch.

Nearby beaches include Poldhu Cove, popular for surfing, swimming and family beach days, and Polurrian Cove, a quieter sandy cove reached by a steep path. Both are beautiful places for a slower day by the sea.

For food and drink, Mullion has a handful of welcoming pubs and cafés, while the clifftop hotels around Polurrian and Mullion Cove offer scenic options for a meal or drink with a view.

Walking is one of the area’s greatest strengths. Follow the South West Coast Path towards Kynance Cove or Lizard Point for wild cliffs, turquoise water and some of Cornwall’s most dramatic scenery. Mullion is best enjoyed as a base for beaches, coves, walking and big Lizard landscapes.
