Polperro

Polperro is one of south east Cornwall’s most picturesque fishing villages, with whitewashed cottages, narrow winding lanes, a tiny harbour and steep hillsides rising above the sea. It has a wonderfully traditional feel, especially once you leave the main car park and walk down into the village on foot.

The harbour is the heart of Polperro. It is perfect for slow wandering, photography, crabbing, browsing small shops and watching fishing boats in the water. At low tide, a small beach appears just beyond the harbour wall, offering a sheltered spot for paddling, rock-pooling and pausing by the sea.

Polperro has plenty of places to eat and drink, from cosy pubs and tearooms to fish and chips and seafood restaurants. The Blue Peter Inn is a classic harbour-side pub, while Michelle’s Restaurant is a popular choice for a more intimate meal. For something simple, fish and chips by the harbour is hard to beat.

Boat trips are another lovely way to experience Polperro. Seasonal trips usually run from the harbour in good weather, offering short coastal cruises, wildlife spotting and views back towards the village from the sea. It is a great way to appreciate the cliffs, coves and fishing heritage from a different perspective.

Walking is one of the best ways to enjoy the area. Follow the South West Coast Path towards Looe for sea views and woodland sections, or head west towards Talland Bay for a lovely coastal route with coves and clifftop scenery.
