Portloe

Portloe is a small, sheltered fishing village on Cornwall’s south coast, set between steep cliffs on the Roseland Peninsula. It is quieter and more hidden than many coastal destinations, making it ideal for visitors who want peaceful scenery, sea air and traditional Cornish charm.

The harbour is the heart of the village, with a slipway, fishing boats and cottages clustered tightly around the cove. There is no big sandy beach here; instead, Portloe is about rock pools, harbour views, coastal atmosphere and slow wandering.

Food and drink are centred around The Lugger Hotel, a historic waterside inn with a well-regarded restaurant overlooking the cove. It is the main place to eat in the village and suits Portloe perfectly: relaxed, scenic and close to the water.

For walking, Portloe is superb. Follow the South West Coast Path west towards Carne Beach and Veryan, or east towards Nare Head and Caerhays for wilder cliffs, sea views and quiet Roseland countryside. The paths can be steep in places, but the views are worth it.

Portloe is best enjoyed slowly: wander the harbour, watch the boats, walk the cliffs, then settle in for food by the sea.
