Why Praa Sands
Praa Sands is one of Cornwall’s best south coast beaches, set between Penzance and Helston. It has a wide sweep of pale sand, open sea views and a relaxed holiday feel, making it a favourite for families, surfers, swimmers and walkers.
The beach is the main attraction. At low tide, there is plenty of space for beach games, paddling and long walks along the shoreline. It is also a popular surf spot, especially when conditions are right, though the sea can still be powerful, so it is best to follow lifeguard guidance when cover is in place.
Food and drink options are easy and beach-focused. The Sandbar is a popular choice close to the sand, with sea views, relaxed meals and drinks after a swim or surf. There are also cafés and casual options nearby for coffee, ice cream and simple beach-day food.
For walking, the South West Coast Path runs along the cliffs in both directions. Head west towards Prussia Cove for a wilder, quieter route with coves and sea views, or east towards Porthleven for a longer coastal walk with dramatic scenery along the way.
Praa Sands is best enjoyed as a classic beach day: swim, surf, walk the shoreline, grab food by the sea, then stay for the evening light across the bay.
