Rock

Rock is one of north Cornwall’s most sought-after coastal villages, set on the calm waters of the Camel Estuary opposite Padstow. It has a softer, more polished feel than the wilder Atlantic beaches nearby, with wide sand, dunes, sailing boats and beautiful views across the estuary.

The beach is ideal for slower seaside days: walking, paddling, sailing, watersports or simply watching boats move in and out with the tide. At low tide, the sand stretches towards Daymer Bay, creating a beautiful route for a relaxed beach walk. The area is dog-friendly in places, but it is always worth checking local signage before heading onto the sand, especially in summer.

Food is a real highlight in Rock. Four Boys overlooks the estuary and focuses on seasonal food, with handmade pasta and seafood at the centre of the menu. The Dining Room is another excellent option, a small family-run restaurant known for thoughtful cooking, local ingredients and a more intimate dinner setting.

For walking, Rock is superb but gentle. Follow the sand and coast path towards Daymer Bay, then continue to St Enodoc Church, famously linked with Sir John Betjeman, or carry on towards Polzeath for a longer coastal outing. Alternatively, take the ferry to Padstow for harbour views, shops, restaurants and a car-free day out across the estuary.
