Why St Mawes

St Mawes is a beautiful waterside village on the Roseland Peninsula, looking across the Carrick Roads towards Falmouth. It has a gentle, polished feel, with a pretty harbour, sailing boats, pastel cottages and a slower pace that suits relaxed coastal holidays.

The harbour is the heart of the village. Ferries run across to Falmouth and Place, making it easy to explore without relying on the car. The beaches are small and sheltered, better for paddling, swimming on calm days and sitting with a view than for big sandy beach days.

Food and drink are part of St Mawes’ charm. The village has a good mix of waterside pubs, cafés and restaurants, with The Idle Rocks, St Mawes Hotel and The Rising Sun all popular options close to the harbour. Expect seafood, sea views and a relaxed Roseland atmosphere.

For walking, follow the coast towards St Just in Roseland, famous for its beautiful church and waterside setting, or take the Place ferry and walk towards St Anthony Head for wider sea views, hidden coves and lighthouse scenery.
