Widemouth Bay

Widemouth Bay is a spacious, Atlantic-facing beach just south of Bude, known for its wide golden sand, surf-friendly waves and open coastal views. It has a classic north Cornwall feel: big skies, dramatic cliffs, rock pools at low tide and plenty of room for families, walkers and surfers.

The beach is especially popular for surfing, with local surf schools and board hire making it a good choice for beginners as well as more confident surfers. The sea can be powerful, so it is best to swim or surf between the lifeguard flags when cover is in place.

Food and drink options are easy and relaxed, with beach cafés, takeaways and nearby pubs offering plenty for a casual seaside day. It is the kind of place where you can grab coffee after a morning walk, chips after a surf, or something simple while watching the tide roll in.

For walking, the South West Coast Path runs along the cliffs above the bay. Head north towards Bude for sea views and a livelier town stop, or south towards Millook for a more rugged stretch of coastline. At low tide, the beach itself is also perfect for a long sandy stroll.

Widemouth Bay is best enjoyed with time to spread out: surf, rock-pool, walk the cliffs, then stay for the evening light over the Atlantic.
