Born of the Sea, Rooted in the Clay – A Collective of True Cornish Voices
Pure Cornwall isn’t a glossy travel magazine written from afar. It’s a living, breathing journal of Cornwall — written by the people who actually call it home. Every story you read here, every photo of a hidden cove or windswept headland, every café we recommend or beach walk we rave about — it all comes from locals who’ve lived it, breathed it, and got sand in their shoes doing it.
We’re a collective of Cornwall locals — writers, photographers, surfers, dog-walkers, food lovers, hikers, and parents — all born and raised across this wild and beautiful peninsula. From the salt-sprayed cliffs of West Penwith to the sheltered creeks of the Fal, we’ve grown up knowing the tides, the shortcuts, and the small seasonal changes that mark life down here.
Our Story
Pure Cornwall began as a small idea between friends — a few of us comparing notes over a pint in a pub near Perranporth, realising that so many guides to Cornwall were written by people who’d only skimmed the surface. They’d ticked off the obvious spots — St Ives, the Eden Project, Padstow — but missed the real Cornwall: the tucked-away coves you reach just before sunset, the cafés that locals keep secret, the little walks that make you fall in love with this place all over again.
So we built this site to tell the stories we know best — from the inside. No clichés, no PR spin. Just honest, first-hand experiences from those who live here year-round, rain or shine.
What started as a handful of locals sharing their favourite haunts has grown into a county-wide collective of contributors: surfers from Newquay, artists from St Ives, foragers from the Lizard, writers from Falmouth, parents from Bodmin, and hikers who can name every cove on the north coast by its old Cornish name.
Together, we write, photograph, and film Cornwall as it really is — the Cornwall you’ll remember long after you’ve left.
What Makes Us Different
- Local from the roots up. Every guide, photo, and recommendation comes from someone who lives here — not a freelancer parachuted in for a weekend.
- Real experiences. We actually eat at the restaurants, swim in the sea pools, walk the trails, and get caught in the rain doing it.
- Sustainably minded. We champion small, local businesses and encourage visitors to tread lightly — take memories, not sand.
- Cornwall through the seasons. We write about Cornwall in February drizzle as much as August sunshine — because we love it all.
Meet the Voices Behind Pure Cornwall
We’re not “travel influencers.” We’re the people you nod to on the Coast Path. The ones warming pasties in the boot after a surf. You’ll hear different voices across our pages — each a local perspective with its own patch of Cornwall to champion.
Collectively, we hold one goal: to help visitors see Cornwall through our eyes — to uncover its calm, its character, and its magic.
Our Promise
We’ll never recommend something we haven’t personally experienced. We’ll tell you when a beach is tricky to access, when parking’s a nightmare, and when a place is worth the extra mile down a farm track. Because that’s what locals do — we tell it straight, and we share the good stuff freely.
Whether you’re planning your first trip to Cornwall or you’ve been coming down for decades, we hope you’ll find a little piece of our Cornwall here — the pure one.
Welcome to Pure Cornwall.
Written by locals. Loved by everyone.
